Originally occupied by Danish settlers, Tenby is a delightful walled-town, built in the 15th Century. The Tudor Merchant's house, now a museum, indicates the wealth of Tenby during medieval times. Despite the passing of the years the town has retained its colourful character with a picturesque working harbour, surrounded by attractive Georgian houses and narrow streets.

Around the headland a new lifeboat station has been recently constructed in deeper water for the RNLI. This houses a Tamar Class lifeboat.

From South Beach boats take passengers, in the summer season, to nearby Caldy Island where there is a Cistercian Priory. For those interested in sea fishing some of the harbour boats are dedicated to this activity.

There is an excellent choice of hotels and guest houses to stay at, restaurants and pubs to eat in and interesting independent shops to visit.

Born at Tenby Pembrokeshire in 1510, Robert Recorde became a physician & mathematician. He introduced algebra to Britain & was the inventor of the 'Equals' sign in mathematics - 2008 was the 450th Anniversary of his death.
