Dan y Pared
Dan y Pared takes its meaning from the ancient Welsh tradition of singing Christmas or summer carols, door to door in exchange for treats such as beer, sugar, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon. At WMC it's Dan y Pared throughout the year!
Wales has an ancient and rich musical tradition, and this quote, from Peniarth manuscript dates back to around the year 1330: 'Tri pheth a beir kanmawl kerddawr, nyt amgen: dychmycvawr ystyr, ac odidawc kerddwriaeth, ac eglur datganyat' = The three main things that makes a good musician are: good material and imagination, excellent music and a clear interpretation.
Chief Executive of Wales Millennium Centre Judith Isherwood explains, “A great deal of Welsh speakers now live in Wales’ capital and will be able to enjoy a free Welsh language performance during their lunch hour, however, you don’t have to speak the language to appreciate the music. Everyone is welcome and performances are completely free.”
Performances are held in the foyer.
